Cosplay rules and safety

Let’s make Cosplay Market Convention as safe as possible, so everyone can enjoy their day!

CMC Cosplay Ball has different rules about cosplaying and props, please read them here:

General Guidelines:

1.  RESPECTING EACH OTHER

CMC is an all ages event, so we expect all our attendees to respect one another. Specifically, your behaviour and cosplays, this includes revealing or explicit costumes, offensive words or hateful symbols, attire or depictions. Please be aware that a staff member might ask you to cover up or remove any offending clothing, or vacate the premises.

2.  WEAPONS CHECK

If you think your prop or costume could potentially cause issues, come see us at the Weapons Check. If your prop is acceptable under our safety standards, it will be tagged and you may carry it at CMC. If it’s a potential safety concern, your prop may be held in the cloak room until you leave the event or you may be asked to leave.

3.  PROP SIZE

Props longer or wider than 1.5 metres, including carried props or costume elements like wings must be checked at the weapons check. If you prop is excessively large (exceeding 2.5 metres), it may be deemed unsafe and it may be held for the duration of the event.

4.  MASKS

Any masks or facial coverings should be easy to remove, and removed if requested by staff (This rule excludes coverings worn for Religious reasons/purposes).

5.  NO SHARP POINTS

This includes weapon tips, barbed wire and spikes on armor. Blunt, soft of edges made from soft foam are acceptable.

6.  NO PROJECTILES OR WHIPS

Arrows, whips, Airsoft weapons and gel blasters are all strictly banned.

7.  NO REAL OR REPLICA FIREARMS

Please ensure your prop firearms all have an obvious fluorescent tip. Real or convincing replica firearms aren’t STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Please refer to relevant Queensland laws about acceptable prop firearms for public use.

8.  NO GLASS PROPS

Props made from glass or with elements of glass that can easily be shattered or splintered as strictly banned.

9.  NO METAL WEAPONS

Metal weapons are STRCITLY PROHIBITED. Other metal props are subject to clearance at prop check.
